Studio Shootout
***All performers in the studio shootout MUST be registered in the convention.***
PUT YOUR FIVE BEST VS THEIR FIVE BEST FOR A CHANCE TO WIN $2000
The STUDIO SHOOTOUT is the first competition of its kind. Studios will be graded on their perfomance across the board from solo to group performances to combine for one studio score. The studio with the highest score will win $2000.
STUDIO SCORING
Each studio must enter One, and only One routine per each of the following categories to represent their studio:
One Solo - 1 performer
One Duo/Trio - 2 to 3 performers
One Small Group - 4 to 9 performers
One Large Group - 10 to 19 performers
One Wildcard (group,production, orline) 10-100 performers
STUDIO’S SCORE IS THE TOTAL OF ALL FIVE ROUTINES COMBINED
ROUTINE SCORING
50% JUDGE’S PANEL
Each routine will be scored by a panel of judges based on technique, choreography, skills, and performance. The judges panel will consist of 2 highly acclaimed studio directors, 2 renowned competition circuit choreographers, and 1 working professional. The judging panel will be interviewed prior to the event to make sure there is no affiliation with the region. The high and low scores will also be dropped.
50% INTERNET VOTING
The other 50% will be come from internet voting. Each valid email address can vote one first place vote per category. Internet voting for the competition will start Saturday morning at 8 am and will close on Sunday at 2:00pm.
TIME LIMITS
Solo 2 minutes, 45 seconds
Duet/Trio 2 minutes, 45 seconds
Small Group 3 minutes
Large Group 4 minutes
Line/production 8 minutes
*Any routine exceeding the time limit will only have a 15 second grace period before their score is penalized.
AGE LIMITS
The only age restriction in the Studio Shootout is there are no professionals allowed. A professional is defined as any performer 20 years of age or older.
DANCE STYLES
Any style of dance is permitted in the Studio Shootout. Please make sure that all work is original and age appropriate.
ENTRY DEADLINE
All studios entering the Studio Shootout must be registered no later than 2 weeks prior to event.
STAKES
THE WINNING STUDIO WILL RECEIVE $2,000.00.
Other awards will be:
“Viewer’s Choice”- Routine with the most Internet first place votes.
“Critic’s Choice”- Routine with highest judges score.
*Backstage Award- Studio displaying the best backstage etiquette.
PROPS
For safety measures, all props (free standing or hand held) are restricted to a maximum height of 10 feet. In addition, a dancer may not stand above 6 feet. The use of safety railings may be used; however, the total prop height with railings may not exceed 10 feet. Set-up and Take Down time must not exceed 2 minutes.
LITTERING
No form of liquid, gel, aerosol, paint, glitter, etc. may be used that would effect the dancing surface.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Each studio will receive one photography pass that allows them to have one photographer on the scene. Without a pass, Photography is strictly prohibited. With a pass, flash photography is not allowed as it distracts the dancers. We provide a professional photographer and videographer. Pictures and videos will be available for purchase in the lobby.
